2023 Fabriano Aquarello in Watercolour convention, Bologna
16 artists including myself, represented Scotland at the 2023 international Fabriano Aquarello in Watercolour convention at Sala Borsa, Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna.
Catching the Light, mixed media, 38x56cm was displayed at Sala Borsa, Bologna. There were 1200 artworks from 80 countries on display.
I travelled to Bologna and I spent four days sketching in this busy city with its wonderful architecture, food, ice cream and coffee.
One of my highlights was a croissant filled with Pistachio cream filling.
Unintenional coffee spill on the left hand top corner of this sketch. But that is what I love; it’s all part of the whole experience.
My first meal when arriving in Bolagna. I used the ochre paper eating mat later on for painting. I loved using it as it reflects the colour of the town despite it being really thin. I also enjoy painting on a smaller reduced scale on the coffee table because it limits the materials I can use.
Every drawing and painting of mine have a story and it is no different with this sketch. Not long after I arrived in Bologna, my jacket got stolen when painting. I was so engrossed with the hustle and bustle in front of me that I was totally unaware what was happening behind me. The silver lining is; I have a new fabulous Bologna jacket which is even better than the one I had and luckily all my important belongings were kept in my waist pouch.
